Immigration

A man comes up to the gates, still shocked by the flash.  There hadn't been any noise, just a blinding light for the slightest instant and then it had disappeared into complete blackness.

"Welcome, Michael," says St. Peter, "Do you know where you are?"

The scientist looks around and says, "Since this isn't the bridge of Enterprise, I would have to assume I'm at the pearly gates."

"Correct. Now, Michael. Tell me why I should let you pass?" asks St. Peter with a slightly perplexed look.

The scientist's eyes fill with glee and he answers, "I've just finished a test of unparalleled importance! Unlimited energy, can you imagine? Enough for interstellar travel, not to mention all the problems it will solve on Earth." He draws a deep breath and realizes humility might be in order, "Of course, there are a few things that need to be sorted out before it can safely be used on a production scale."

"True, true,” St. Peter nods his head slightly. "Michael, have you ever wondered why Earth wasn't visited by aliens?"

The scientist looks up at St. Peter not quite understanding the question, " Umm... No, sir."

St. Peter looks the scientist straight in the eyes for a disconcerting amount of time. Finally he gestures with his hand, "Look behind you. See anyone you know?"

The scientist turns to look and sees sea upon sea of people lining up behind him. A colleague of his calls out, "Mike, I gather your test was scheduled for this morning?"

"Yes, but...," he trails off just staring at the crowd, now too large to comprehend.

"You know what, Mike?" says the colleague. "I don't think antimatter was such a great idea after all," he continues and steps back in line with the rest of the population of planet Earth.
