More on the eo

OK, a few updates.

  • The wireless seemed to start doing all by itself. I'll still be keeping a close eye on it to try to figure out what was going on. Maybe someone was jamming my WLAN? :). Still nowehere near the signal reception I'd need to get on the "guest" wireless at work though from my office, though. My two laptops can reach it, my Mac Mini couldn't either.
  • I couldn't get the microphone to work on the headset.
  • It's still hot.
  • The volume from the headphone jack is very high. I fiddled around with the volume settings and found that turning the Master volume and Wave volume down I minimize any noise. I do need to turn the volume back up if I want to hear something from the internal speaker.
  • Yahoo! Widgets don't seem to like the TIP keyboard. As soon as I turn on the TIP my widgets go to never-neverland and I can't get them to show up (reminder to self: file a bug).
  • I tried PivotPro and got partial success. It didn't quite map the mouse or pen to the right location/direction and it didn't handle the screen 600px height (or width in this case) correctly and things were missing from the left and right sides of the screen.
  • I spent most of the weekend downloading my Yahoo! Music Engine subscription songs onto the device. I need to find the time to write a skin / app similar to the Brilliant Black skin that comes for WMP, but handle the taskbar location/size properly.
  • I signed up with foldershare.com to sync/backup my OneNote 2003 files to my home desktop.

This I still need to do:

  • Install Tablet PC PowerToys.
  • Get a password manager application that can autofill all types of password dialogs.
  • Have a look at other TabletPC specific apps.
  • Write a WPF based "ebook" reader that supports rotation.
  • Figure out why the device has a .CAB file that contains Media Center files.

All in all, I really love the concept and I think this is the way things will migrate. The few things that need to be fixed/changed:

  • Weight: About half the weightm please.
  • Dimensions: Should be about half the thickness and I would minimize the frame around the screen while trying to keep some of the buttons.
  • Heat: I'd rather fry my eggs (hands?) on a stove thanks.
  • Battery life: Yeah, not gonna go there. Needs to be much longer.
