Music to listen to while reading this useless post: 99 Red Ballons
OK, this came up the other day and I stumbled on some facts related to the Windows Media DRM stuff, so I thought I'd post it for future reference to troubleshoot network traffic and for router/firewall configurations. For general YME troubleshooting, see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-WSOl1tg1dKXet7GA8E7VbQ--?l=16&u=21&mx=36... .
This list is by no means complete. The obvious traffic:
yme.music.yahoo.com webservice.music.yahoo.com playlist.yahoo.com app.musicnet.com (us.ent1.)yimg.com *.launch.yahoo.com
Basically anything with yahoo.com or musicmatch.com at the end. Certificate revocation checks:
- http://ocsp.verisign.com/ocsp/status
"The DRM components might connect to other URLs to verify certificates if required by certificates or licenses. Some network communications to unknown sites that take place during DRM operations occur because of the Windows networking routines that the DRM component uses.". Reference: MSDN/Windows Media DRM Individualization Best Practices
I'm sure there is a bunch of gracenote.com and related domains that are contact, too, but I didn't see these in my logs while I was typing this. I'll try to update this list when I come across new items.
UPDATE: RTFM. Found this in the help/faq: Firewall Issues: Unable to Connect, or the Songs Stalls at Requesting Stream
