iTunes: My turn to complain

December 6, 2005 20:45 by docbliny

After moderating the feedback group for YME for several months now I've seen my share or complaints and disgruntled users. Today is my turn to complain.

I tried to purchase Battlestar Galactica from iTunes today. Haven't had cable for awhile and I haven't seen any episodes from season 2. I haven't bought anything from iTunes since I really do like the subscription model better. If I want something on a CD, I'd rather buy the real thing than have a CDR with my lousy handwriting on it.

While purchasing I found the following things in the user interface to irritate me:

1. Everything is either a "song" or "music".
2. I had to go to the "Music Store" to buy a TV show.
3. Right-clicking on a video gives me options like "Convert to MP3".

OK, so maybe #3 is possible. I wouldn't know. I've been "downloading" the first episode for who knows how long and nothing is happening. I got maybe 1/4 of it and then Apple decided to take my money and run. Restarting the download or iTunes doesn't help. Customer service is the usual stuff: "We respond to requests in the order they are received, and will contact you within 72 hours."

I really did want to watch it today. (Now for the usual things you hear). No wonder people pirate stuff. You get better quality for free and with a better success rate (OK, so I've never torrented anything in my life, but I've seen the progress bar move other peoples' screens, unlike my iTunes at the moment).

We are upgrading our systems to better serve you. We will respond to your request within 72 hours. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: Well, response time was amazing about 40mins. Too bad they didn't read my email (I told them I'd tried resuming several times and they gave me instructions on how to resume).
